Iowa Driver License Requirements at-a-glance:

*The Minimum Age is 14 years for Learner’s Permit

  • The required total of Hours of practice Driving that Learner’s Permit Holders must record is 20, which must include 2 hours of night driving.
    *Minimum Age is 16 years for Driver License
    *Road Test must be taken
    *Unsupervised rules of driving state that teems with an Intermediate license are not permitted to drive between the hours of 12:30AM and 5AM unless they are accompanied by a licensed adult driver that is 25 years and older. You may drive unsupervised if you secure a waiver, and then you can travel, if you are commuting to and from school or work.
    *Passenger Rules state that learner’s permit holders are allowed to drive with passengers if there are adequate seat belts for them in the vehicle. A licensed, supervising driver at least 25 years old must be seated in passenger seat beside you.
    *Other Driver education will be required for teens under the age of 18
