Most likely. Just to get your learners permit in New Jersey, you must be enrolled in approved behind-the-wheel driver training course through the N.J. Department of Education or a commercial driving school.
If you are 17 or older, however, you do not have to take a behind-the-wheel driving course to get your learners permit. Just pass your driving exams.
For NJ learners permit drivers, passengers must be from your household, and up to one additional person. You must also be accompanied in the front seat by an adult who is at least 21 years of age and who possesses a valid New Jersey driver license and has a minimum of three years of driving experience.
When you get your New Jersey provisional license, you can only have one passenger who is not a member of yoru household with you in the car for six months.
