How old do I have to be to take my Minnesota isntruction permit test?

To take the test for your Minnesota learners permit, the Minnesota Driver and Vehicle Services ("DVS") department requires you to be at least 15 years old and complete 30 hours of driver education classroom instruction, such as Driver Ed To Go's Minnesota online driver education course.

How old do I have to be to get my Minnesota drivers license?

The Minnesota DVS seperates Minnesota drivers license into provisional licenses and unrestricted licenses.  You may receive your Minnesota provisional license at 16, so long as you have your Minnesota instruction permit and have finished the 30 hours of drivers education classes like the online drivers ed course offered by Driver Ed To Go.  . You cannot receive your unrestricted license if you are 18 unless you have held your Minnesota provisional license for at least 12 months with no traffic violation convictions.

What paperwork do I need to give the Minnesota DVS before I can drive in Minnesota?

To get your Minnesota instruction permit, you need to show the Minesota DVS proof of identify, such as a certified birth certificate, your Social Security number, and a Blue Card from your driving school. You must also bring a parent or guardian to sign your Minnesota instruction permit application.

What if I don't pass the Minnesota drivers license exam?
If you don't pass the Minnesota drivers license exam, you can retake the exam but will have to wait a day before returning to a Minnesota DVS location to take the drivers license test again.
How many questions are on the final exam at the end of the Driver Ed To Go Minnesota online driver education course?

At the end of the Driver Ed To Go Minnesota online driver education course, you will need to pass a final examination covering what was reviewed throughout the course. The exam is 40 questions long and you must answer 32 correctly to pass and receive your certificate of completion.

Does Driver Ed To Go meet Minnesota DVS requirements?
The DriverEdToGo Minnesota Course Book when used for homeschooling will satisfy your Minnesota drivers ed course requirements. However, the online course is NOT approved in Minnesota, but it can still be purchased and used as a study supplement to a classroom drivers education course.
How long will it take to receive my certificate of completion from Driver Ed To Go?

I have finished the Driver Ed To Go course and received my instruction permit from the Minnesota DVS. Can I start driving now?

The DriverEdToGo Minnesota Course Book will only satisfy your drivers education requirement if you use it for homeschooling. The online course is for supplemental usage and will not cover any legal requirements towards earning your learner's permit.  Once you complete the requirements for the DriverEdToGo homeschool Course Book for Minnesota and pass your learner's permit test, you can begin driving, so long as you are accompanied by a Minnesota driver over the age of 21 in the passenger seat.

How long do I need to have my Minnesota instruction permit before I can get my Minnesota drivers license?

Am I required to do Behind the Wheel training?

To receive your Minnesota learners permit, you must be currently enrolled in a professional behind-the-wheel driving class. You must successfully complete this class before you can apply for a drivers license with the Minnesota DVS.

How many hours of supervised driving do I have to have before I can get my Minnesota drivers license?

In addition to finishing a professional driving school program, the Minnesota DVS requires ten hours of supervised driving by a licensed Minnesota driver age 21 or older before you can apply for your Minnesota provisional drivers license.

Can my friends ride with me when I drive with my Minnesota instruction permit or drivers license?

For 6 months after receiving your Minnesota provisional license, you may drive with only one passenger under the age of 20 unless you are accompanied by a parent or guardian. During the second 6 months of your provisional license, you may drive with no more than three passengers under 20 unless accompanied by a parent or guardian. The Minnesota DVS allows an exception for passengers under 20 who are members of your immediate family.

Can I drive alone with my Minensota instruction permit? What about my Minnesota privisional drivers license?

Minnesota state law expressly prohibits Minnesota drivers who only hold an instruction permit from driving alone.

When you receive your Minnesota provisional drivers license, thes restrictions begin to ease. For the first 6 months, you may drive alone on your Minnesota provisional license from 5am until midnight. After those hours, you must be accompanied by a Minnesota driver who is at least 25 years old unless you are driving to or from work, or are driving as part of your employment. The Minnesota DVS will also allow you to driver alone between midnight and 5am if you are driving to or from a school-sponsored function for which transportation has not been privided by the school.

Driver Ed To Go stands by its product, and will happily give you a full refund if you are not competely satisfied with the class.  All you have to do is return your workbook and all included materials in sellable (free of damage, notations, or other visible wear) condition to us at 640 S. San Vicente Boulevard, Suite 490 Los Angeles, CA 90048 prior to completing the course.  Once we receive the workbook and determine that it is in sellable condition, we will issue you a prompt refund.
