I used to think driver's ed was only for teenagers.
Then my aunt took a driving refresher course in her late 60s.
She wasn't a bad driver. She'd been driving for decades. But she told me she started avoiding certain situations. Busy intersections. Driving at night. Places she wasn't familiar with.
At first she didn't think much of it.
Then she realized she was planning her day around roads she didn't want to drive on.
That's actually one reason some adults take driver's ed.
In Pennsylvania, most mature adults and senior drivers aren't required to take a driver education course. If you already have a valid driver's license, nobody is going to tell you that you need to go back to school.
But some people choose to anyway.
Sometimes they've moved to Pennsylvania from another state. Sometimes they haven't driven much in recent years. Sometimes they just want a refresher on current traffic laws or driving techniques.
And honestly, that's pretty normal.
A lot of experienced drivers have questions they never ask. They wonder if a rule has changed. They wonder if they're handling a situation correctly. They wonder if other drivers know something they don't.
Taking a course doesn't mean you're starting over.
It just means you're taking a little time to sharpen skills you already have.
Most people service their car without thinking twice.
There's nothing wrong with occasionally doing the same thing for your driving skills.
