Oregon Driver License Requirements at-a-glance:

*Learner Permit Minimum: Age 15 Years
*6 month holding period for Learner Permit (prior to a provisional license upgrade one must have had their 16th birthday and completed drivers education)
*To obtain a provisional driver’s license the minimum age is 16 years
*Road Test: Yes
*One must complete a minimum 50 hours driving practice (or if not enrolled in driver’s ed 100 hours) with a qualified supervising driver outside their driver’s ed class. That driver must have had a license at least three years and be age 21 or older.
*Unsupervised Driving Rules: Provisional holders of a license who are under 18 years old are not permitted to drive between midnight and 5 a.m. unless they are driving to school or work in the first twelve months of holding their license.
*Passenger Rules: Provisional holders of a license who are under 18 years old are not permitted to carry any passengers under age 20 that are not family members in the initial 6 months of being licensed. In the second 6 month period of holding that license they are not permitted to carry any more than 3 passengers that are not family. These restrictions relating to passengers are waived should the licensee have a 25 year or older adult who has held a license at least three years accompanying them.
*Licensed drivers not yet 18 years old are forbidden to use text messaging devices or cell phones while driving. Those who have reached the age of 18 can use cell phones only if they are equipped with a hands free device.
