Massachusetts Driver License Requirements at-a-glance:

*The minimum age at which a person can hold a learner’s permit is 16 years.
*Learner’s permit is valid for a period of only 6 months.
*The minimum amount of hours under supervision required is about 40 hours but it is only 30 hours for those who undertake Massachusetts online drivers ed and are accompanied by an approved supervisor who is at least 21 years of age.
*According to the motor vehicle department in Massachusetts, the minimum age necessary for one to acquire a driver’s license is 16 years and 6 months. Even then, a road test will be necessary.
*A person holding a junior license undertaking unsupervised driving is not allowed to drive after midnight and before 5.00 am unless a supervisor or a parent / guardian is in the car with them.
*It is important to note that the passenger rule applies, which means no minors are allowed in the vehicle save for family members at least for the first six months.
