Yes. California requires that you complete both a driver's education course (like the one offered online by DriverEdToGo) as well as behind-the-wheel training from a professional driving school. Once you have completed DriverEdToGo's California online driver education course, we will issue you a certificate of completion (Form DL400C). You must bring this form with you to the DMV when you go to take your written learner's permit exam.
After you have received your California learner's permit, you should enroll in a driving school of your choice to complete your behind-the-wheel training.
If you are over 17 ½ but under 18 years of age, you may get your permit without the driver education and driver training certificates however, you will not be able to take the driving test until you turn 18.
The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) requires you to hold a California learner's permit for a minimum period of 6 months before you can get your California drivers license.
To get your California drivers license, you must complete 50 hours of practice with a licensed California driver 25 years or older. At least 10 of the 50 hours must have been done at night. This is in addition to your required six (6) hours of behind-the-wheel training from a professional driving instructor.
If you are under age 18, it is illegal for you to drive alone at any time in the State of California. You must be accompanied by a California licensed driver who is at least 25 years or older.
If you are under the age of 18 and have your California learners permit or provisional drivers license, a licensed California driver 25 years of age or older who has a valid California driver license must be with you when you drive. It is illegal for you to drive alone at any time.
