AP Driving SchoolFAQ's

Since AP Driving School is listed on your website, does this mean they are approved by the California DMV to offer behind-the-wheel training courses?
The list of driver training schools on our webpage is provided as a convenience to our customers only.  We CANNOT guarantee that every single school listed is fully-approved by the California DMV.  You may want to call AP Driving School directly to find out if they offer a state-certified behind-the-wheel training course.
Will the California DMV allow my parents to supervise my driving practice instead of requiring me to take a behind-the-wheel training course at a state-approved driving school?
Possibly.  Some states will allow your parents to supervise your driving practice in place of taking a behind-the-wheel driving course with a professional driving instructor.  You will need to contact the California DMV to find out if your behind-the-wheel driving may be done by your parents in California.
What if I don't know how to drive a manual-shift automobile? Does AP Driving School have automatic-shift vehicles that I can drive when I do my behind-the-wheel training?
If you're taking a Cerritos California driver training class, chances are you don't know how to drive ANY vehicle yet-- stick or automatic.  However, if you prefer an automatic vehicle then you should tell AP Driving School that prior to registering for the course in order to make sure they can accommodate you.
Since I live way out in a remote location where driving on dirt roads and bumpy terrain is the norm, will AP Driving School be able to teach me how to drive in a non-urban environment? Or do they only prepare you for city-driving?
Since you live in a rural area, odds are that any local driving school in your area such as AP Driving School will want you to be able to drive safely on dirt roads and bumpy terrain.  We recommend that you contact AP Driving School directly to find out exactly what they offer.
I'm turning 14 in a few months. Can I get a learner's permit to drive in California after my 14th birthday?
Most likely, no.  Most states (though not all) have laws which require that you be at least 15 or 15 1/2 before to be eligible to apply for an instruction permit.  Nevertheless, you may wish to contact the California DMV office or a California-certified driving school such as AP Driving School to find out for certain what the minimum driving age is in your local area.
Do I have to take a Cerritos California classroom or online drivers education course before I can enroll in a driver training course through AP Driving School?
This requirement varies by state but most states do require pre-licensed drivers to take BOTH a classroom-based driver education course (generally 30 hours in length) AND a driver training course.  You should ask AP Driving School if they offer one or both programs.
Does AP Driving School provide a hands-on driver training course like the one that is required by the State of California? I need to enroll in one in order to obtain my driver license.
AP Driving School offers driver training courses which are approved by the California DMV.  You may want to contact AP Driving School directly for more information about their courses and how to go about signing up for one.
What type of driver ed do I need before California will give me a driver's license?
Each state has its own requirements concerning drivers education, although you should know that most states now require all new, young drivers to complete a safe driving classroom or online course as well as a driver training course.  AP Driving School may be able to help you fulfill the behind-the-wheel training requirement in California.  Please contact either AP Driving School or the California DMV for more information.
Is there a law in California that requires me to take behind-the-wheel training in order to get my driver's license?
Yes.  State law in California mandates that all teen-agers enroll in an approved driver training course before receiving a California driver's license.
Do I need to have my instruction permit before I register for a behind-the-wheel training course like the one that AP Driving School offers?
You will need to contact AP Driving School or the California DMV to find out if you are allowed to enroll in a driving school like AP Driving School before obtaining your California instruction permit.
