Is Onondaga Driving Academy licensed by the New York DMV to offer behind-the-wheel training courses?
Although we include Onondaga Driving Academy in our directory of driving schools for Syracuse New York, we cannot make any assurances about whether or not Onondaga Driving Academy is licensed by the New York DMV.  You should contact Onondaga Driving Academy directly and ask them if you are thinking about registering for their Syracuse New York driver training class.
Could I just have my mother or father teach me how to drive instead of paying money to take a professional behind-the-wheel training course?
It depends on which state you live in.  There are some states which permit you to do your hands-on driver training with a parent or guardian instead of enrolling in a professional driving school.  However many states require that first-time drivers take a professionally-taught driver training course.  We recommend that you ask your state's DMV office to find out if your parent or guardian can fill the role as your behind-the-wheel driving instructor.
Do you know if Onondaga Driving Academy will let me complete my behind-the-wheel training using an automatic-shift vehicle? I don't know anything about using a manual-shift.
Considering you're a brand new driver, you probably don't know a whole lot about driving ANY type of vehicle, be it a manual OR an automatic!  Nevertheless, if you have a preference, you probably should contact Onondaga Driving Academy and see if they can accommodate you before signing up to take their behind-the-wheel training course.
The area in which I live is mostly undeveloped--very few paved roads and mountains are all around. Will Onondaga Driving Academy be able to teach me how to drive safely on bumpy terrain as well as in a city or town?
Considering that you live in a remote area, chances are excellent that a local driving school like Onondaga Driving Academy will want you to be able to drive safely on unpaved roads and other types of bumpy terrain.  You may wish to contact Onondaga Driving Academy to find out exactly what their behind-the-wheel training course includes before enrolling in their training course.
If I'm 14, can I get a driver's permit to drive in New York?
Possibly.  However, you should be aware that most states require you to be at least 15½ years old before you can get a learner's permit.  We recommend that you contact the New York Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or a certified driving school such as Onondaga Driving Academy to find out exactly what the minimum age requirement is in New York.
Is taking a drivers education course in a classroom or online sufficient in Syracuse New York or do I also have to enroll in a driver training class with a professional driving instructor?
It depends on what the New York's laws require, but many states do mandate that new, young drivers to register for a driver training class with a professional driving instructor as well as a drivers education classroom or online course.

What are the laws in New York concerning driver training courses? Do I have to take one to get my driver's license?
Yes, you do.  New York law states that new drivers enroll in an approved driver training course as a prerequisite to getting their first driver's license.
