Cherokee RidersFAQ's

How do I know if Cherokee Riders is licensed by Alaska's DMV to offer driver training courses?
While we do include Cherokee Riders's contact information in our driving school directory, we cannot say with certainty as to whether Cherokee Riders is certified by the State of Alaska.  We recommend that you either contact Cherokee Riders directly or possibly the Alaska DMV to find out if Cherokee Riders is a certified driver training school.
Do I have to take a behind-the-wheel training course? Can't my parents just give me my driver training?
There are some states that do permit parents or guardians to provide their teen-aged kids' required behind-the-wheel training in order to obtain a driver's license.  However many states do not allow any type of substitution for attending a professionally-taught behind-the-wheel training course.  We suggest you contact your state's DMV to find out what the laws are in your state regarding hands-on driving instruction.
I don't know how to drive using a manual-shift. Will Cherokee Riders have an automatic-shift car available that I can use for my behind-the-wheel training?
Since you're enrolling in a Fairbanks Alaska driver training class, chances are good that you don't know how to drive either a stick-shift OR an automatic!  However, you should let Cherokee Riders know what your preference is before enrolling in their behind-the-wheel class.  That way you'll know for sure they will accommodate you.
What happens to those of us who live in a remote area? Will Cherokee Riders include instruction on how to drive on dirt roads, mountain roads, and other rugged?
If you live in a rural location, there is a high probability that a local driving school like Cherokee Riders will either want--or even be required--to tailor their instruction towards driving safely in your particular area.
Now that I'm 14, will Alaska allow me to get a learner's permit to drive?
Not likely.  Most states require residents to be at least 15 or 15 1/2 years old before applying for an instruction permit.  We recommend that your contact the Alaska DMV office or a Alaska-approved driver training institute such as Cherokee Riders to learn more about the minimum driving age requirement in Alaska.
Do I have to take both a drivers education classroom course and a behind-the-wheel training course in Fairbanks Alaska to get my Alaska driver's license?
The laws vary depending on which state you live in, but most states do require that pre-licensed drivers enroll in a drivers education classroom course and a driver training course.  You may want to call a driving instruction company like Cherokee Riders and find out if they offer either (or both) of these programs.
Does Cherokee Riders provide a driver training course like the one that is required by the State of Alaska? I need to sign up for one in order to obtain my driver license.
Cherokee Riders offers driver training courses which are approved by the Alaska DMV.  You may want to contact Cherokee Riders directly for more information about their courses and how to go about registering for one.
I live in Fairbanks Alaska. What are the requirements for me to be able to get my first Alaska driver's license?
It depends on the particular laws of Alaska, but most states require teen-aged first-time license applicants to successfully complete both a safe driving classroom course and a driver training course.  Cherokee Riders may offer courses which would fulfill the driver training requirement, however you will need to contact them directly to find out exactly what types of courses they offer.
Is hands-on driver training required in Alaska in order to be licensed to operate a motor vehicle?
Absolutely.  All new drivers in Alaska must register for an approved driver training course before they can get a license to independently operate a motor vehicle.
Will Alaska allow me to sign up to take a driver training course before I actually get my learner's permit?
You will need to contact your state's DMV office to find out.  However, most states require that you receive your learner's permit before you sign up with a driver training course.
