McGinnis School of DrivingFAQ's

How do I know if McGinnis School of Driving is certified by New Mexico's DMV to offer driver training courses?
While we do include McGinnis School of Driving's contact information in our driving school directory, we cannot say with certainty as to whether McGinnis School of Driving is certified by the State of New Mexico.  We recommend that you either contact McGinnis School of Driving directly or possibly the New Mexico DMV to find out if McGinnis School of Driving is a certified driver training school.
Do you know if I can complete my driver training with my mother or father instead of attending a behind-the-wheel training course like the ones offered by McGinnis School of Driving?
Some states allow teen-agers to do their behind-the-wheel training with their parents instead of attending a professional driver training school.  We recommend that you contact the New Mexico DMV or McGinnis School of Driving directly to find out if New Mexico allows parent-taught driver training.
I can't drive a manual-shift. Will McGinnis School of Driving allow me to do my behind-the-wheel training on an automatic-shift vehicle?
We recommend that you contact McGinnis School of Driving and ask them if you can do your behind-the-wheel training using a vehicle that has an automatic shift before enrolling in their behind-the-wheel training course.
I live in a very rural area, where there are mountains and a lot of dirt roads. Do you know if McGinnis School of Driving teaches students how to drive in rural areas like where I live instead of just driving on smooth, paved roads in city areas?
Since you live in a remote area, a local driving school such as McGinnis School of Driving will tailor your behind-the-wheel training to handle the conditions in your area.
I just turned 14 years old. Can I receive my instruction permit in New Mexico?
Probably not.  The minimum age requirement for holding an instruction permit in most states is 15 1/2.  You should contact the New Mexico Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or a licensed driving school such as McGinnis School of Driving to find out more information about the minimum age requirement in New Mexico.
Can I take McGinnis School of Driving's driver training course before taking a Albuquerque New Mexico drivers education classroom course or online course?
It depends on what New Mexico's laws say.  However, you should know that most states will require teen-aged, first-time drivers to complete both a defensive driving classroom course (which are approximately 30 hours in length, depending on New Mexico's laws) or an approved online course, plus a state-approved driver training course.  We recommend that you contact McGinnis School of Driving directly to see if they offer either (or both) of these courses.
Does McGinnis School of Driving provide a behind-the-wheel training course like the one that is required by the State of New Mexico? I need to complete one in order to obtain my driver license.
McGinnis School of Driving offers behind-the-wheel training courses which are approved by the New Mexico DMV.  You may want to contact McGinnis School of Driving directly for more information about their courses and how to go about registering for one.
Do I have to take drivers education to get a New Mexico driver's license?
Drivers education requirements vary depending on which state you live in, but you should be aware that most states require new, teen-aged drivers to register for both a driver training course in addition to a drivers education classroom or online course.  You may wish to contact the New Mexico DMV to find out exactly what requirements you will need to fulfill in order to obtain your first driver's license.
What does the law in New Mexico say about driver training courses? Do I have to take one to get my driver's license?
Yes, you do.  New Mexico law states that new drivers successfully complete an approved behind-the-wheel training course as a prerequisite to obtaining their first driver's license.
Will New Mexico allow me to register for a behind-the-wheel training course before I actually receive my learner's permit?
You will need to contact your state's DMV office to find out.  However, most states require that you obtain your instruction permit before you register with a driver training course.
