S.V.M. Defensive Driving SchoolFAQ's

Is S.V.M. Defensive Driving School a licensed driving school in Texas?
Just because a driving school appears on our directory of driver training institutions, we cannot guarantee that they are fully licensed to offer behind-the-wheel training courses in Texas.  We highly recommend that you contact S.V.M. Defensive Driving School directly or the Texas DMV to find out for sure if S.V.M. Defensive Driving School offers hands-on driving courses that have been approved by the State of Texas.
Do you know if I can complete my driver training with my mother or father instead of attending a behind-the-wheel training course like the ones offered by S.V.M. Defensive Driving School?
Some states allow teen-agers to complete their behind-the-wheel training with their parents instead of attending a professional driving school.  We recommend that you contact the Texas DMV or S.V.M. Defensive Driving School directly to find out if Texas allows parent-taught behind-the-wheel training.
I don't know how to drive using a stick-shift. Will S.V.M. Defensive Driving School have an automatic-shift car available that I can use for my driver training?
Since you're enrolling in a El Paso Texas behind-the-wheel training class, chances are good that you don't know how to drive either a manual-shift OR an automatic!  However, you should let S.V.M. Defensive Driving School know what your preference is before enrolling in their behind-the-wheel class.  That way you'll know for sure they will accommodate you.
I live in a very rural area, where there are mountains and a lot of unpaved roads. Do you know if S.V.M. Defensive Driving School offers training for driving in rural areas like where I live instead of just driving on smooth, paved roads in city areas?
Since you live in a rural area, a local driving school such as S.V.M. Defensive Driving School will tailor your driver training to handle the conditions in your area.
I just turned 14 years old. Can I receive my learner's permit in Texas?
Probably not.  The minimum age requirement for holding an instruction permit in most states is 15 1/2.  You should contact the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or a licensed driver training institute such as S.V.M. Defensive Driving School to find out more information about the minimum age requirement in Texas.
Do I have to complete a El Paso Texas drivers education classroom course or online course before enrolling in one of S.V.M. Defensive Driving School's behind-the-wheel training courses?
Each state has its own rules, but most states will require first-time drivers to take both a behind-the-wheel training course plus either a defensive driving classroom course (which are about 30 hours in length) or an approved online defensive driving course.  You may want to ask S.V.M. Defensive Driving School if they offer one or both programs.
I have to complete a driver training class in El Paso Texas before Texas will give me my driver's license. Does S.V.M. Defensive Driving School offer this type of course?

I live in El Paso Texas. What requirements must I meet to be able to get my first Texas driver's license?
It depends on the particular laws of Texas, but most states require teen-aged first-time license applicants to successfully complete both a drivers education classroom course and a driver training course.  S.V.M. Defensive Driving School may offer courses which would meet the driver training requirement, however you will need to contact them directly to find out exactly what types of courses they offer.
