South Carolina Driver License Requirements at-a-glance:

*Learner’s Permit— Minimum Age 15 years
*The applicant needs to hold the permit for at least 6 months
*The applicant for a Conditional License needs to be at least 15 years 6 months. The applicant needs to be at least 16 years of age in case he is applying for a Restricted License.
*Road Test Mandatory
*Supervised Driving: a minimum of 40 hours (this must include 10 hours night driving). The permit holder needs to be supervised by a valid license holder no younger than 21.
*Unsupervised Driving Rules: Those who hold Conditional and Restricted licenses may drive unsupervised any day from 6am-6pm (during DST, 8 pm). For driving during the rest of the day, one needs to be accompanied by a driver with a valid license who also needs to be in the front seat of the vehicle.
*Passenger Rules: Conditional and Restricted license holders are allowed to carry no more than two passengers under the age of 21, if they are not from their family. However, if a supervisor is there with the driver, this passenger rule is waived.
