Connecticut Driver License Requirements at-a-glance:

*Individuals applying for Learners’ Permits must be at least 16 years of age
*The holding period for a Learner’s Permit is 6 months or 4 months with drivers education
*Individuals applying for a Driver’s License must be at least 16 years and 6 months old (4 months with drivers ed)
*Driving Test – On Road
*Rules for driving with a Learner’s Permit – Permit holders cannot operate vehicles unless they receive supervision from a licensed driver. This person must be at least 20 years of age with 4 years of driving experience. As the supervisor, this person must sit in the front passenger seat while the permit holder operates the vehicle.
*Rules for carrying passengers – Permit holders cannot carry passengers under any circumstances. The qualified licensed supervisor is the only passenger allowed in the vehicle.
*Additional driver’s education courses may be necessary for individuals under 18. Permit holders who do not complete driver’s education courses will have 6 months before their permit expires.

Step 3: Take the exam for acquiring your Learner’s Permit

Step 5: Take the road test during the 6-month learner’s permit holding period.
