Driver’s Education designed with you in mind

When teens are first learning to drive, they are highly receptive to important messages about the dangers of unsafe driving and driving while intoxicated. That is why it is so important for parents to get involved at this initial stage to ensure proper and thorough education to help set ground rules and instill good driving habits, as their teen takes on the responsibility of operating a motor vehicle.

Elko Nevada Online Driver Education and Elko Nevada Licensing Procedures

Congratulations on starting the process of applying for your Elko Nevada learner’s permit or first Elko Nevada driver’s license. Elko Nevada has a Graduated Driver License Program for Elko Nevada teen drivers, and there are a few things to keep in mind to make sure that applying for your first Elko Nevada driver’s license goes as smoothly as possible. So let’s get started.

The Elko Nevada Instructional Permit or Elko Nevada Learner’s Permit

When you turn 15 and a half, you can apply for a Elko Nevada Instruction Permit. To apply, you’ll need to meet the following Elko Nevada requirements:

  • Be 15 and a half
  • Complete a Elko Nevada approved driver safety course
  • Present proof of identity (U.S. issued birth certificate or Social Security Card)
  • Pay the $22 fee
  • And your parent/guardian must sign a financial responsibility section of driver application

If you’ve met all of the Elko Nevada teen driver’s license requirements, head on down to your local Elko Nevada DMV and submit your application. Then you’ll have to take a written test, consisting of 50 multiple choice questions, a vision test, and an initial road skills test. If you fail, the retest fee is $10. If you pass, then congratulations. You’ve just received your Elko Nevada Instruction Permit, which is valid for 1 year.

Remember that with your Elko Nevada Learner’s Permit, you can practice driving with your parent, guardian, driving instructor, or licensed driver who is at least 21. All passengers must wear seatbelts, and be sure to carry your Elko Nevada Learner’s Permit with you at all times. After you’ve had your Elko Nevada learner’s permit for 6 months, you’ll be ready for the next step in the Elko Nevada Graduated License Program, the Elko Nevada full license.

The Elko Nevada Provisional Driver License or Elko Nevada Full License

In order to apply for your Elko Nevada Full Driver’s license, you’ll need to make sure you follow a few Elko Nevada State requirements before heading down to your local Elko Nevada Driver Examination Station:

  • Hold your Elko Nevada learner’s permit for at least 6 months without incident (no at-fault accidents, moving violations, or alcohol or drug convictions)
  • Complete a Elko Nevada approved driver safety course which includes 50 hours of behind-the-wheel experience
  • 10 hours must be night-time driving
  • If driver education is not offered within 30 miles of your home, you can take a Elko Nevada-approved online driver education class
  • If you do not have internet access, then you must complete 100 hours of supervised driving, 10 of which must be nighttime driving
  • Regardless of how you choose to complete the required practice hours, you must keep a written log to be submitted to your local Elko Nevada DMV. Your parents must sign this form
  • The Elko Nevada DMV also maintains a Beginning Driver Training Guide to help parents and teens practice driving

If you’ve completed these Elko Nevada requirements, schedule your Elko Nevada teen driving test by calling or online, then head on down to your local Elko Nevada DMV again, where you’ll submit your application and the required materials. Again, you’ll need the following:

  • Parent/guardian to sign a financial responsibility statement
  • Elko Nevada Instruction Permit
  • Proof of Identity
  • Driver Education Certificate
  • Completed Beginning Driver Experience Log
  • Vehicle with Registration and Insurance

Then you’ll have to take the dreaded road test. If you pass, then congratulations! You’ve just earned your Elko Nevada Full License! However, you’ll still have to drive with a few restrictions for the time being.

Elko Nevada Teen Driver License Restrictions and Penalties

There are several restrictions you need to be aware of regarding your Elko Nevada Full Driver’s license:

  • Everyone in the vehicle must wear a seatbelt
  • No driving between 10PM and 5AM unless for emergencies, your job, or a school-related activity
  • There are special curfews for Las Vegas and Reno
  • For the first 6 months, no passengers under 18 except for family members
  • There is a .02 blood alcohol limit for drivers under 21

After you turn 18, these Elko Nevada teen driver restrictions are removed. Freedom!

Elko Nevada Auto Insurance Elko Nevada Financial Responsibility Laws

Once you receive your Elko Nevada learner’s permit or Elko Nevada full driver’s license, you’re ready to drive--or are you? Any vehicle registered in Elko Nevada must be covered by liability insurance. The minimum liability insurance coverage is:

  • $15,000 per person for 1 person per accident
  • $30,000 bodily injury for 2 or more persons per accident
  • $10,000 for property damage

If you are found to be driving without Elko Nevada mandatory liability insurance, your Elko Nevada license could be suspended.

Elko Nevada Drunk Driving, Cell Phone, and Text Messaging Laws

As a new Elko Nevada driver, it’s important for you to learn the Elko Nevada drunk driving, cell phone, and text messaging laws. Like most state, Elko Nevada has a Zero Tolerance Law for underage drinking, and if you are convicted of a Elko Nevada DUI or Elko Nevada DWI, you face addition penalties to those listed below.

Upon your first conviction of a Elko Nevada DUI, you’ll face the following penalties:

  • Jail sentence 72 days to 6 months
  • $400-$1,000 fine
  • License suspension 90 days
  • Ignition Interlock Device installation
  • Community Service 96 hours (in lieu of jail time)
  • DUI school tuition with $150 enrollment fee
  • Possible DUI Program or Treatment

And of course, further Elko Nevada DUI convictions will result in increased jail time, community service, fines, and Elko Nevada license suspension or even Elko Nevada license revocation.

Currently, Elko Nevada teen drivers are not prohibited from using cell phones while driving.
