Alaska Driver License Requirements at-a-glance:
Minimum Age for Learner Permit

If you are under 18, you must have held your learner's permit for a minimum of six (6) months before you can apply for a driver's license.

Unsupervised driving rules
16 and 17-year-old drivers are initially issued a provisional driver's license. A provisional license prohibits you from driving unsupervised between the hours of 1:00am and 5:00am unless you are driving to or from your job (on the most direct route). Otherwise, you must be accompanied by a licensed, 21-year-old driver during these hours.
Passenger rules
With a provisional license, it is okay to carry passengers so long as one of the passengers is at least 21 and has been a licensed driver for at least one (1) year. This licensed driver must be seated in the front passenger seat.
Other
While driving with an instruction permit, the supervising adult must have had a license for one year and be at least 21 years of age or older.
