AA Driving SchoolFAQ's

Is AA Driving School licensed by the California DMV to offer behind-the-wheel training courses?
Although we include AA Driving School in our directory of driving schools for San Francisco California, we cannot make any assurances about whether or not AA Driving School is licensed by the California DMV.  You should contact AA Driving School directly and ask them if you are thinking about enrolling in their San Francisco California behind-the-wheel training class.
Do I have to take a driver training course? Can't my parents just give me my behind-the-wheel training?
There are some states that do permit parents or guardians to provide their teen-aged kids' required behind-the-wheel training in order to obtain a driver's license.  However many states do not allow any type of substitution for attending a professionally-taught behind-the-wheel training course.  We suggest you contact your state's DMV to find out what the laws are in your state regarding behind-the-wheel training.
I don't know how to drive using a stick-shift. Will AA Driving School have an automatic-shift car available that I can use for my behind-the-wheel training?
Since you're enrolling in a San Francisco California behind-the-wheel training class, chances are good that you don't know how to drive either a stick-shift OR an automatic!  However, you should let AA Driving School know what your preference is before enrolling in their behind-the-wheel class.  That way you'll know for sure they will accommodate you.
I don't live anywhere near a city. There are dirt roads and bumpy terrain all around my house. How do I know if AA Driving School will train me on how to drive in a remote area like where I live and not just teach me how to drive in a town-or city-type environment?
Since AA Driving School is a local driver training company in your area, it's a safe bet that AA Driving School will be motivated (or perhaps required) to teach its local customers how to drive on rough terrain.  If you want to make certain, however, you may want to call AA Driving School to find out exactly what's included in their driver training course before you register with them.
Can 14-year-olds get instruction permits to drive in California?
Most states have set the minimum age for applying for a learner's permit at 15 or 15 1/2.  However, some states do allow 14-year-olds to get a learner's permit.  You may want to contact the California DMV or a California-approved driver training school like AA Driving School to find out what the minimum age to drive is in California.
Can I take AA Driving School's driver training course before taking a San Francisco California drivers education classroom course or online course?
It depends on what California's laws prescribe.  However, you should know that most states will require teen-aged, first-time drivers to complete both a defensive driving classroom course (which are approximately 30 hours in length, depending on California's laws) or an approved online course, plus a state-approved driver training course.  We recommend that you contact AA Driving School directly to see if they offer either (or both) of these courses.
California law says that I must successfully complete a driver training course in order to get licensed to drive in San Francisco California. Is this something that AA Driving School can help me with?
Yes, AA Driving School offers the California-approved behind-the-wheel training course.  For more information about their classes and instruction schedule, please contact AA Driving School directly.
Do I have to take drivers education to get a California driver's license?
Drivers education requirements vary depending on which state you live in, but you should be aware that most states require new, teen-aged drivers to register for both a behind-the-wheel training course in addition to a safe driving classroom or online course.  You may wish to contact the California DMV to find out exactly what requirements you will need to fulfill in order to obtain your first driver's license.
Am I obligated to take a San Francisco California behind-the-wheel training course?
All drivers in California are required to take a driver training course.  You should contact AA Driving School to learn more about the courses they offer.
Can I enroll in a California-licensed behind-the-wheel training course even if I don't have my California instruction permit yet?
Most likely, no.  Most states have laws that require a pre-licensed driver to have obtained a California instruction permit before registering in a California driver training course.  It would be best for you to contact a driving school such as AA Driving School and ask for more information.
