GT Driving SchoolFAQ's

Are all the driving schools listed on your website fully-certified by the California DMV to offer behind-the-wheel training courses in California?
The driving school directory on our website is for your convenience only, and we cannot absolutely guarantee that every driving school listed is currently certified to offer behind-the-wheel training courses in California.  We suggest you contact the California DMV to make sure a particular driver training school is licensed before you sign up to take their driving course.
Somebody told me that I can skip out of attending a driver training school if my parents give me behind-the-wheel training instead. Is that permissible in California?
Each state has its own laws regarding driver training.  Some states will allow parentally-supervised driver training as a substitute for enrolling in a driver training course which is taught by a professional driving instructor.  However, not all states allow this.  You should contact the California DMV to find out for sure.
I don't know how to drive using a stick-shift. Will GT Driving School have an automatic-shift car available that I can use for my driver training?
Since you're enrolling in a Garden Grove California behind-the-wheel training class, chances are good that you don't know how to drive either a stick-shift OR an automatic!  However, you should let GT Driving School know what your preference is before enrolling in their driver class.  That way you'll know for sure they will accommodate you.
What happens to those of us who live in a non-urban area? Will GT Driving School include instruction on how to drive on dirt roads, mountain roads, and other bumpy terrain?
If you live in a remote location, there is a high probability that a local driver training school like GT Driving School will either want--or even be required--to tailor their instruction towards driving safely in your particular locale.
Are 14-year-olds allowed to obtain a learner's permit in California?
Although a few states allow teen-agers to begin practicing how to drive at 14, most states have set the youngest age for which to hold an instruction permit at either 15 or 15½.  You will need to contact the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or a licensed driving school like GT Driving School to find out what the minimum age for driving is in California.
Am I required to take a Garden Grove California classroom or online drivers education course before I can register for a driver training course through GT Driving School?
This requirement varies from state to state but most states do require new teen-aged drivers to take BOTH a classroom-based driver education course (generally 30 hours in length) AND a driver training course.  You should ask GT Driving School if they offer one or both programs.
Does GT Driving School provide a hands-on driver training course like the one that is required by the State of California? I need to sign up for one in order to obtain my driver license.
GT Driving School offers behind-the-wheel training courses which are approved by the California DMV.  You may want to contact GT Driving School directly for more information about their courses and how to go about registering for one.
I live in Garden Grove California. What are the requirements for me to be able to get my first California driver's license?
It depends on the particular laws of California, but most states require teen-aged first-time license applicants to successfully complete both a safe driving classroom course and a driver training course.  GT Driving School may offer courses which would fulfill the driver training requirement, however you will need to contact them directly to find out exactly what types of courses they offer.
What does the law in California say about driver training courses? Do I have to take one to get my driver's license?
Yes, you do.  California law states that new drivers successfully complete an approved behind-the-wheel training course as a prerequisite to obtaining their first driver's license.
Can I sign up to take a California-certified behind-the-wheel training course even if I don't have my California instruction permit yet?
Most likely, no.  Most states have laws that mandate a pre-licensed driver to have obtained a California learners permit before registering in a California driver training course.  It would be best for you to contact a driving school such as GT Driving School and ask for more information.
