Suburban DrivingFAQ's

Is Suburban Driving a licensed driving school in New York?
Just because a driving school appears on our directory of driver training institutions, we cannot guarantee that they are fully licensed to offer driver training courses in New York.  We highly recommend that you contact Suburban Driving directly or the New York DMV to find out for sure if Suburban Driving offers driver training courses that have been approved by the State of New York.
Will the New York DMV allow my parents to supervise my driving practice instead of requiring me to take a behind-the-wheel training course at a state-approved driving school?
Possibly.  Some states will allow your parents to supervise your driving practice as a substitute to taking a behind-the-wheel driving course with a professional driving instructor.  You will need to contact the New York DMV to find out if your behind-the-wheel driving may be done by your parents in New York.
Do you know if Suburban Driving will let me complete my behind-the-wheel training using an automatic-shift vehicle? I don't know anything about using a manual-shift.
Considering you're a brand new driver, you probably don't know a whole lot about driving ANY type of vehicle, be it a stick OR an automatic!  Nevertheless, if you have a preference, you probably should contact Suburban Driving and see if they can accommodate you before registering for their behind-the-wheel training course.
I live in a very remote area, where there are mountains and a lot of unpaved roads. Do you know if Suburban Driving teaches students how to drive in rural areas like where I live instead of just driving on smooth, paved roads in city areas?
Since you live in a remote area, a local driving school such as Suburban Driving will tailor your driver training to handle the conditions in your area.
If I'm 14, can I get a driver's permit to drive in New York?
Possibly.  However, you should be aware that most states require you to be at least 15½ years old before you can get an instruction permit.  We recommend that you contact the New York Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or a licensed driving school such as Suburban Driving to find out exactly what the minimum age requirement is in New York.
Is taking a drivers education course in a classroom or online sufficient in Fairport New York or do I also have to successfully complete a driver training class with a professional driving instructor?
It depends on what the New York's laws require, but many states do mandate that new, young drivers to take a driver training class with a professional driving instructor as well as a drivers education classroom or online course.
If I need to enroll in a Fairport New York driver training program, can Suburban Driving help?

Do I have to take drivers education to get a New York driver's license?
