Academy of DrivingFAQ's

Can you tell me if Academy of Driving is a licensed driving school in Arizona?
Although Academy of Driving is listed on our list of driving schools in your area, we are unable to say with certainty as to whether they are currently certified to teach hands-on driving courses in Arizona.  We recommend either calling Academy of Driving directly or the Arizona DMV to find out whether or not Academy of Driving offers driver training courses that are state-approved.
Do you know if I can do my driver training with my mother or father instead of attending a driving school like Academy of Driving?
Some states allow teen-agers to complete their behind-the-wheel training with their parents instead of attending a professional driver training school.  We recommend that you contact the Arizona DMV or Academy of Driving directly to find out if Arizona allows parent-taught behind-the-wheel training.
What if I don't know how to operate a vehicle with a manual-shift? Does Academy of Driving have an automatic-shift vehicle they'll let me train with?
Since you're just learning how to drive, you probably don't know how to operate either a stick-shift or an automatic-shift vehicle!  However, if you have a preference as to a stick or an automatic, you probably should call Academy of Driving to see if they can accommodate your request prior to your signing up to take their driver training course.
What happens to those of us who live in a non-urban area? Will Academy of Driving include instruction on how to drive on dirt roads, mountain roads, and other bumpy terrain?
If you live in a rural location, there is a high probability that a local driver training school like Academy of Driving will either want--or even be required--to tailor their instruction towards driving safely in your particular area.
After I turn 14, will I be eligible to obtain my instruction permit so I can begin to learn how to drive?
It depends on which state you live in, however most states unfortunately require you to be at least 15 (or sometimes 15 1/2) before you can be issued a learner's permit.  We suggest that you contact a local driver training school such as Academy of Driving or the Arizona DMV office to learn more about the minimum age requirement for driving in Arizona.
Can I take Academy of Driving's behind-the-wheel training course before taking a Tucson Arizona drivers education classroom course or online course?
It depends on what Arizona's laws say.  However, you should know that most states will require teen-aged, first-time drivers to complete both a drivers education classroom course (which are approximately 30 hours in length, depending on Arizona's laws) or an approved online course, plus a state-approved behind-the-wheel training course.  We recommend that you contact Academy of Driving directly to see if they offer either (or both) of these courses.
Arizona law says that I must successfully complete a hands-on driver training course in order to get licensed to drive in Tucson Arizona. Is this something that Academy of Driving can help me with?
Yes, Academy of Driving offers the Arizona-approved driver training course.  For more information about their classes and instruction schedule, please contact Academy of Driving directly.
What are the requirements in Tucson Arizona for getting a drivers license?
It depends on your state's laws, however in many states, teen-agers must complete both a drivers education classroom course and a driver training course.  Academy of Driving may offer an approved driver training course which you could take.  Please contact Academy of Driving for information regarding their available classes and how to go about signing up for them.
Is it necessary for me to sign up for a behind-the-wheel training course in order to get my first Arizona driver's license?
Yes, it is.  All teen-aged drivers applying for their first driver's license in Arizona must complete a state-approved driver training course.
Is it okay for me to register for a driver training class in Arizona before I receive my Arizona instruction permit to drive?
Probably not.  Most states require first-time drivers to have their learners permit before they are allowed to register for a behind-the-wheel training program.  You should contact a driving school like Academy of Driving and request more information.
